Amazing technology, how was it created?
maidsafe created Perpetual Data to relieve many problems with IT, and the first problem to be
solved was; people could lose data and that is obviously crazy. Perpetual Data's first goal
was to stop this and separate data from computers and put this into the hands of the users,
completely. The system grew from there and we cannot tell where it will stop, but it is right,
fair and logical.
How can I be anonymous?
Maybe you should ask your existing backup provider why you aren't anonymous? With us, your
login details aren't being sent to a central server/company for possible review. In fact your
details never leave your computer! You could read our patents for more in-depth information if
you need to know more.
How can this service be free?
It's free in that you don't need to part with any money. In terms of what it costs you - if
you want to store 10Gb of data onto the network you would need to donate a 10Gb segment of
your computer's hard disc to the network (which you probably weren't using anyway!). Or, if
you prefer, you could buy space from us.
How does maidsafe make money?
We get income from selling a pro version of the system, advertising, donations, and the sale
of storage space to other companies. There are many revenue streams not identified at this
stage. The largest potential area is from licensing the use of our technology.
How secure are the maidsafe products?
More secure than any other technology available today. All of your data is split up, mixed up,
and scattered to many locations and only you hold the key to getting it back. We have a
patented method of protecting your information.
I am a business, can I use this?
No! We are developing a corporate product called msSAN that has some additional functionality
for businesses to use. This will likely be free to 5 users or less. Perpetual Data is a
personal use license only.
If you're making 'many' copies of my data, won't the system run out of room?
No. Every new user brings more capacity, and the system monitors the number of available
copies to ensure this is maintained at an optimum level to get the files back to you as
quickly as possible. In addition, the Perpetual Data system automatically removes a lot of
duplicate files from the network which frees up lots more space.
Is it as slow as other systems when uploading data?
No. Due to our duplicate removal technology we can very quickly check if your file is on the
network already before going to the trouble of saving it (even if it has a different name to
the existing file) - this saves a lot of time and wasted effort. There's only one way to find

What's different about the maidsafe technology?
No one can read your data or trace your activity. There is no 3rd party company
where your data can be stored, monitored and tracked. It's an extremely safe place to store
your information. Only you or people you have shared data with can see your files.
Why should I use maidsafe products?
maidsafe is all about putting you back in charge of your privacy, security and freedom of your
personal information. With your current storage and internet activity, do you really know who
is looking at your information, making judgements about you, and targeting you for spam, junk
mail, and advertising? maidsafe helps prevent a lot of unwanted invasion of privacy.
